When to travel

October to March is popular for much of north and central India. Summer heat can be severe, while monsoon timing differs by region. Ladakh and high Himalayan routes follow a different season. Festival periods are vivid but busy, so transport and accommodation need earlier planning.

Plan for context, not fear

Same-sex relationships are legal, but same-sex marriage is not legally recognised. Major cities tend to have more visible queer networks, while smaller places can be more conservative. Read the current safety guide, then choose accommodation, transport and public visibility around your own identity and comfort.
